PROGRAM AURORA

[INTERNAL] KeedMartin Skunkworks · Project Aurora Working File

This document has surfaced as an alleged internal KeedMartin Skunkworks working file. KeedMartin has neither confirmed nor denied its authenticity. Skunkworks by long tradition does not comment on projects that either exist or do not exist, which is not a category that helps here. The document is consistent with format conventions used in prior confirmed Skunkworks releases, and inconsistent with them in several small ways that could indicate either forgery or a working copy that never left the drafting phase. Read as one possible reality, not as record.

01

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Program AURORA is Skunkworks' internal follow-on to the HESTIA-class interplanetary vehicle. Where HESTIA is a large habitation-first vehicle designed around a first-generation exotic drive, AURORA is designed around the drive being mature. The vehicle is substantially smaller in mass and volume than HESTIA and substantially greater in every operational metric: transit distance, sustained thrust, structural durability, and reusability of the propulsion architecture across successive missions.

Publicly, AURORA is a paper vehicle. Its existence as a paper vehicle is not itself classified. Internally, a functional airframe exists, awaiting integration of the HPJ-Fuel power train and HPJSD engine. The gap between the paper vehicle and the internal reality is the length of the current propulsion development timeline, which is not disclosed in this document.

02

HANDLING

This document was written for engineers on the program. It presumes read-in status on HPJ-Fuel, HPJSD, and the broader Juno-derived research line. Nothing here should be discussed outside cleared spaces. The existence of a working airframe is compartmented one level above the paper program. If you do not know why the airframe is compartmented separately, you are not read in for this document.

HPJSD · Hyper-Photo-Juno-Fuel Spin Drive

The engine is designated HPJSD: Hyper-Photo-Juno-Fuel Spin Drive. The name is descriptive rather than marketed. The mechanism exploits observations made possible by the Juno wormhole event, converts HPJ-Fuel through a photonic interaction stage into a directed thrust vector, and does so at efficiencies that make prior propulsion classes not competitive on a mission-cost basis.

The drive's operational profile is fundamentally different from any chemical or electric propulsion in service. Its thrust does not scale with mass flow in the conventional sense. Its fuel consumption does not scale with mass flow either. Sustained thrust across long transits is achievable on fuel quantities that appear, at first exposure, to violate intuition. They do not violate physics. They exploit a mechanism that had not been characterized before the Juno event and that is being characterized now.

HESTIA's flight article carries a first-generation implementation of this drive. AURORA is designed for a second-generation implementation: higher sustained thrust, longer maintenance intervals, greater tolerance for fuel-quality variation, and expected reusability across successive missions without teardown. All second-generation properties are dependent on ongoing research and none is currently field-demonstrated.

05

HPJ-FUEL

HPJ-Fuel (Hyper-Photo-Juno-Fuel) is the propellant class that makes the drive possible. The name reflects its production pathway rather than its chemistry, which is best characterized as REDACTED.

Current production capacity for HPJ-Fuel is limited. The HESTIA flight article carries the largest single quantity of it in the programme's inventory, enough for a Duna-and-return profile with reserve. AURORA's baseline mission profile would require a comparable quantity if the mission is Duna-class, and roughly equivalent quantities for arbitrarily longer missions once the second-generation drive is in service.

That is not a misprint. Fuel required does not scale with distance in the way it does with any other known propulsion architecture.

Production is expected to expand as the underlying research matures. A rough internal projection places civilian-accessible production at least a decade out. In the interim, HPJ-Fuel is a strategic resource and its inventory is a compartmented figure.

ON THE COMPARTMENTATION OF THE AIRFRAME

The airframe exists. The paper program says it does not. These positions are compatible because Skunkworks routinely completes internal test articles for programs that publicly do not yet have hardware. The AURORA airframe is compartmented above the paper program because if its existence becomes public before the propulsion is demonstrated, the programme loses the ability to sequence public disclosure appropriately.

HESTIA has to fly first. AURORA cannot be visible until then.

If you are reading this and are not listed above, you are looking at a leak.

09

RECEPTION

This document, unlike the KIA HESTIA Propulsion Assessment, is regarded by most commentators as either a forgery or a working file that a Skunkworks engineer allowed to escape. KeedMartin has been unusually quiet, which the community reads in either direction. If genuine, it confirms that HESTIA's drive is the first of a class and not a one-off, and that a follow-on vehicle already exists in metal.

If forged, it is exceptionally well done.

FICTION NOTE

KeedMartin Skunk Works, Program Aurora, the X-9, the HPJSD drive, HPJ-Fuel, and all details contained in this document are fictional elements of the MSC Kerbal space program storytelling universe. The Aurora Working File is an in-world leaked document presented as in-universe fiction. KeedMartin has neither confirmed nor denied because KeedMartin does not exist. This page shares continuity with the MSC universe bible and the broader Kerbal Internet project.
